Layoffs for American Airlines (NYSE:AMR)
After cutting flights, American Airlines will lay off up to 175 pilots starting next month. The company has already noticed 80 pilots that their employment will cease at the end of February. There is also talk of another round of furloughs to come this spring.
It has been reported by American that weak travel demand has resulted in cutting flights and that leaves more pilots than flights for them to work. Additionally, pilots are not retiring as much as was anticipated by the company.
AMR Corporation (NYSE:AMR) is the parent company for American Airlines and the company has reported losses 4 out of the last 5 quarters. The company has lost a total of said this week it lost over $1.4B in the last 5 quarters.
