Friday's NASDAQ Losers: RHI Entertainment, Leap Wireless and WesBanco
The NASDAQ had another great week but these stocks finished Friday at a new 52-week low: WesBanco, Inc. (NASDAQ:WSBC), Leap Wireless International, Inc. (NASDAQ:LEAP) and RHI Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ:RHIE).
RHI Entertainment, Inc. (Public, NASDAQ:RHIE) hit 75 Cents a share today and in the last 5 days shareholders have lost 72% of their holdings. RHI's week from hell started after the company reported a net loss for the third quarter of $16.7 million or $1.24 per share, in comparison with a net loss of $3.5 million or $0.26 per share in the same quarter a year-ago.
RHI's quarterly total revenue fell to $9.5 million from $53.5 million in the year-ago quarter. On average, analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report a loss of $0.22 per share on revenue of $51.07 million. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items. Leap Wireless International, Inc. (LEAP) touched $12.21 a share and finished the day at $12.25. Last week Leap reported Q3 loss grew 31% as competition and the weak economy were a drag on subscriber growth. Leap Wireless sells prepaid wireless service to consumers, the company lost $64.6 million, or 85 cents per share, in the three-month period, compared with a loss of $49.3 million, or 72 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.
Revenue rose 21 percent to $599.5 million, from $496.7 million last year. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters, on average, were expecting a smaller loss of 53 cents per share on higher revenue of $620.2 million.
