When will the U.S. Unemployment Slow Down?
Unemployment in the U.S. is at a record high, benefits rose to 4.776 million in the week ended Jan. 17, the highest since record-keeping started in 1967.
The headlines are getting worse and worse, so expect the unemployment numbers to keep on climbing. Already this week Home Depot (HD), Caterpillar (CAT), Sprint Nextel (S) and at least eight other companies announced on Monday they would cut more than 75,000 jobs in the United States and around the world. Don't expect a Bull market anytime soon unless its a few hours or a single trading day in the next few months so play the swings.
The U.S. lost 2.6 million jobs last year, more than in any year since 1945. The unemployment rate climbed to 7.2 percent in December, the highest level in almost 16 years.
