Price and Volume: JA Solar, Arch Coal and Netlist (NASDAQ:JASO),(NYSE:ACI),(NASDAQ:NLST)

Three stocks stood out as making solid gains on heavier than normal volume in today’s trading: JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. (ADR) (NASDAQ:JASO), Arch Coal, Inc. (NYSE:ACI), and Netlist, Inc. (NASDAQ:NLST).

JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. (ADR) (NASDAQ:JASO) shot out the gates today and is looking to close at 7.5% at the time of this writing.  Shares are trading hands at $6.80, which is +$0.47 from previous close (+7.42%).  Volume today is at nearly 15M shares, and that is well over 1.5X average daily volume of 8.4M.  Strong gains for JA Solar.

Arch Coal, Inc. (NYSE:ACI) has made the gap up today and held steady throughout the day.  It has posted a +$1.65 (+6.72%) to $26.21.  Volume spiked today as it approaches nearly 2X average daily volume.  6.7M shares have traded hands versus the daily average of 3.75M.  An analyst upgrade may have contributed to the stock’s gains today.

Netlist, Inc. (NASDAQ:NLST) likewise gapped up at the open and then shot up throughout the trading day, only to give a fair amount of the gains to close near the gap open price of $5.40.  Shares are currently trading at $5.51 and marks +$0.42 gain (+8.25%).  Today’s volume is above average at 6.6M versus 5M.  An announced investor presentation in New York may have contributed to the stock’s gains.
