Weekly Volume Winners: Citigroup (NYSE:C), KeyCorp (NYSE:KEY) and Marshall & Ilsley (NYSE:MI)

This week’s heavy weekly volume winners include Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C), KeyCorp (NYSE:KEY) and Marshall & Ilsley Corporation (NYSE:MI).  Read on for more information.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C) had a massive volume week considering the company has literally lead the volume leader board for the past year.  5.4B shares were traded in the last week as compared with average weekly volume of 2.6B, making for 2X average weekly volume.  Shares closed at $4.86, up from the previous week of $4.56 for a 6.6% gain.  The stock will now be challenging the $5 resistance level set back in September of 2009.

KeyCorp (NYSE:KEY) had a very strong volume week as 200M shares passed the trading floor, which is solidly over 2X average weekly volume of 89M.  Shares shot up for a massive 14.9% increase to close at $9.19 a share versus $8.00 the previous week.  KeyCorp made a new 52-week high with the volume that propelled the stock last week.

Marshall & Ilsley Corporation (NYSE:MI) topped volume charts last week as 100M shares were traded versus 50M average weekly volume, making for 2X average weekly volume.  The stock price made a massive price increase on the volume as it closed at $10.19, up 21.2% from the previous week’s close of $8.41. MI recently broke through the upper resistance of $9 and now may have some room to run.
