Boeing's Big Day: 787 Up in the Air at 10:30 AM (Video Included)
The Boeing Company's (NYSE:BA) 787 Dreamliner lifted off just before 10:30 AM Pacific Time today near Seattle, nearly two and a half years after it was supposed to. Boeing shares are trading flat at $55.58 today.
Ground tests have reportedly been going well, including a a taxi run where the plane hit 130 knots. The plane that's being tested today is for carrying 250 passengers up to 9,000 miles. And it's got competition, as Boeing's rival Airbus is developing the A350, which, according to the BBC article, "will also be made primarily from carbon-composite materials."
Boeing has around 850 orders for the Dreamliner, so the pressure is on. To watch the webcast of this potentially historic test flight, go here.
