The Return of the American Car Company: Ford beats Toyota & Honda (F, HMC, TM)
Now that's a headline you don't always read and makes you do a double-take. However Ford Motor's (NYSE:F) January U.S. sales beat both Toyota (NYSE:TM) and Honda Motor (NYSE:HMC) by a landslide, to the tune of up 24%.
For the day Ford (F) is the big winner, its stock is up 2% while Toyota and Honda are both negative for the moment. Ford (F) January U.S. sales closed up +24% to 112,406 vehicles. The details are as shown:
Cars up 43%; crossovers up 20%; SUVs up 8%; trucks and vans up 14%. Ford brand up 26%; Lincoln up 16%; Mercury up 6%. Fusion +49%. Taurus +121%.
HIT THE BREAKS
Not if you're driving a Toyota (TM), oh what a feeling. Toyota Motor Corp. has announced a fix for sticking accelerators that forced it to recall 2.3 million vehicles last week -- a 30-minute repair that could keep some dealerships open around the clock to meet demand -- consumers are saying it took the automaker too long to take the problem seriously.
