The DOW within 5 Points from 10,500
The Dow Jones got up to 10,495 this morning thanks to big oil leading the charge, Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM) and friends are ripping higher today, the ProShares Ultra Oil & Gas (ETF) (NYSE:DIG) is up 4% as investors turn to oil, commodities, and gold.
Just last Friday WallStNation wrote Go Long Oil with Exxon and the DIG (XOM, DIG) and suggested that oil and the big oil companies are a safe bet, that is paying off in spades this morning as almost all the major oil companies are up 1 to 3%. Stocks have been trading in the opposite direction of the dollar. As the dollar weakens, it has pushed the value of commodities higher because they become cheaper for foreign investors. Gold hit a new record.
Yamana Gold Inc. (USA) (NYSE:AUY), Barrick Gold Corporation (USA) (NYSE:ABX) and Goldcorp Inc. (USA) (NYSE:GG) are still worth considering as viable investments (review Gold at New Highs but Investors are Afraid (NYSE: AUY), (NYSE: ABX), (NYSE: GG))
Gold prices rose sharply, hitting a new record. Gold climbed $17.40 to $1,164.20 an ounce Monday. It rose as high as $1,167.80 earlier in trading.
Want to bet on commodities? Do so via the PowerShares DB Agriculture Fund (NYSE:DBA). The DBA Index is a rules-based index composed of futures contracts on some of the most liquid and widely traded agricultural commodities. The Index is intended to reflect the performance of the agricultural sector.
