New 52-Week Lows for Evergreen Solar, Suntech Power, and StemCells Inc.
Tough day for shareholders of Evergreen Solar (NASDAQ:ESLR), Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. (NYSE:STP) and StemCells Inc. (NASDAQ:STEM). All three stocks hit new 52-week lows today including Evergreen Solar which is now trading under $1.
Evergreen Solar (ESLR) shares hit 92 cents today and recovered to 96 cents at the close. Evergreen shares have lost 57% over the past year and have a 52-week range from 92 cents to $2.96. Back on May 4th the company missed expectations with actual earnings of $-0.12, which was 3 cents below the consensus estimate. Evergreen Solar reported losses of $-24.95 million last quarter compared with net losses of $-83.15 million during the same quarter a year ago. In the last month ESLR shares have dropped 18% and have a 14% short interest.
Suntech Power Holdings (STP) shares hit $9.05 today and finished the day at $9.51. Yesterday HSBC reiterated an 'overweight' rating on SunTech (STP) and cut price target from $17.50 to $13.40. In 2010 Suntech shares have lost 42% of their value, dropping from above $18 to today's $9 level.
StemCells Inc (STEM) hit a new 52-week low of $1.01 and have lost 36% since last October. On May 4th the company reported a Q1 2010 loss of $6.1 million or $0.05 per share, compared to a net loss of $9.3 million or $0.10 per share in the previous year quarter. Total revenue for the quarter increased to $230 thousand from $57 thousand in the last year quarter.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected StemCells to report a loss of $0.07 per share on revenues of $250 thousand.
