Etrade – The Takeover Candidates (NASDAQ: ETFC), (NASDAQ: AMTD), (NYSE: WFC), (NYSE: JPM)
The other day, we posted an article about E TRADE Financial Corporation (NASDAQ:ETFC) being a takeover candidate for TD Ameritrade Holding Corp. (NASDAQ:AMTD). Jason Schwarz makes a good point that a larger bank like Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC) or JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) might be better suited for assimilating Etrade.
Schwarz said, “I still don’t think TD Ameritrade (AMTD) is the ideal takeover. Because of the mortgage mess on E*trade’s books, I see a larger bank being more suited to E*trade. Someone like Wells Fargo (WFC) or JP Morgan Chase (JPM) or even a regional bank that wants to make a splash in the brokerage business would be a tremendous fit. As a Wells Fargo customer myself, I would be ecstatic to see the E*trade platform become part of the service.”
Schwarz also made a couple other really good points. He indicated that a new CEO is a catalyst to implementing a takeover, calling it “one of the hottest jobs on Wall Street” and that “Whoever comes in will have free reign to get a (takeover) deal done.” His other point is that interested investors should not let the mortgage mess fool them. The E*trade platform is highly sought after and he believe it better than some competitors based on experience.
We applaud Schwarz for this article, as he may be right on target. He concludes with possible scenarios for investors to profit by buying LEAPS. Get the full story here.
