Price+Volume: Huntington Bank, MBIA and Pulte (NASDAQ:HBAN),(NYSE:MBI),(NYSE:PHM)

Shares of Huntington Bancshares Incorporated (NASDAQ:HBAN), MBIA Inc. (NYSE:MBI) and Pulte Homes, Inc. (NYSE:PHM) all moved markedly higher on larger than normal volume.  Read on for more details.

Huntington Bancshares Incorporated (NASDAQ:HBAN) seems to be breaking out of a very tight trading range today on massive volume, 59M today versus average daily of 15M.  That is almost 4X average daily volume.  Shares are currently trading at $4.32 and up +$0.46 (+11.92%) from previous close.  The charts suggests the will be working its way toward the recent resistance level of $4.70 a share set back between August to October of 2009.  If it can break that resistance, given the volume accumulation on the stock throughout the recent trading range, the sky may be the limit.

MBIA Inc. (NYSE:MBI) is having a great day after bouncing off some historic lows for the company between November and December.  Shares have made 15.52% progress to $5.21 (+$0.70) at the time of writing, which is up substantially from previous close.  Volume checks in at 18M and well over 2X average daily of 7.8M.  In checking the chart, you will note an interesting thing, the stock made a double bottom when shares tested the November low in about mid December and then shares took off on heavy volume.  That is a good sign for interested investors of the stock as it appears the stock has met an absolute bottom for now.

Pulte Homes, Inc. (NYSE:PHM) is looking to close the day approaching 16M shares traded for the day.  That is well over 2X average daily volume of 6.6M shares.  At the time of this writing, shares had advanced to $11.23, which +$0.86 (+8.29%) from the previous close $10.37.  Studying the chart for the company, we see that shares bounced back in early December off some lows and have been making great progress since.  Today’s volume and price movement are huge for the stock and should mark the price progression toward testing the upper resistance at $13.00.  That would still be roughly a 16% gain from current levels.
